Chanel and Louis Vuitton warned the owners of this domain name and others to stop selling products using counterfeits of the Chanel and Louis Vuitton trademarks. After multiple warnings were met with noncompliance, a lawsuit was filed against the domain owners in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. The lawsuit was filed to protect consumers from confusion as a result of the owners’ illegal activities.
In March, 2009, the Federal Court ordered the operators of this site to stop “manufacturing or causing to be manufactured, importing, advertising, or promoting, distributing, selling or offering to sell counterfeit and infringing goods using the Chanel and Louis Vuitton Marks.” The Court’s order was ignored by website operators. Accordingly, in August, 2009, the Court held the operators of this website in contempt of court and ordered the domain name be removed from their control and transferred to Chanel and Louis Vuitton.
Chanel continuously monitors the Internet and auction websites and takes action where appropriate to stop the illegal sale of replica Chanel.
